Interviews

Goran Reljic New In Middleweight division

Date: 08. 08. 2008

MMA Manager: How are you feeling since your last fight?
Goran Reljic: I am doing great, no injuries, feeling ready and training hard like nobody for my next fight.

MMA Manager: A lot of people who do not know you personally or train with you were underestimating you for the fight with Wilson Gouveia what do you have to say about that?
Goran Reljic: I don't have much to say, people always talk a lot, words are very easy but then I think that they all saw that they were very wrong about me.  I like to do my talking with action. Some people doubted that I was ready to compete strong at this level but I had confidence that I was prepared.

MMA Manager: We saw you being very aggressive at the weigh in for UFC 84 against Wilson was that a tactic or just you being you?
Goran Reljic: I am always an aggressive fighter, definitely Wilson was saying some stuff that I  didn't like so that did make me even more aggressive. He mentioned that he had more UFC experience a lot.  Other than his big mouth he is a very good fighter and I had to stay aggressive to show him I was ready.

MMA Manager: You looked like you had a new game plan with a few tricks up your sleeve during the fight. How did your training camp go leading up to the fight?
Goran Reljic: I always have new tricks up my sleeve and my game plan is to train hard and be very focused I think it is important. My training camp went excellent.  I worked very hard to be prepared and it showed.

MMA Manager: Was it part of the plan to go toe to toe with Wilson Gouveia?
Goran Reljic: Yes everybody knows that I am ground fighter but they forget that I am from a country where kickboxing is a strong tradition. That¢s why I decide to stand up with him and TKO him in the end.

MMA Manager: What were your feelings about the outcome of the fight and whether it was a fair stoppage?
Goran Reljic: I knocked him out with a left hook and I think that the ref should of stopped it even before because his eyes rolled back right after I dropped him. I don¢t think it was a bad stoppage.

MMA Manager: So are you happy with the fight outcome? What do you think you need to work on?
Goran Reljic: I am never happy with my performance, I always want to be improving in every level of my skills and challenge myself.  I need to work on everything that¢s exactly what I am doing.

MMA Manager: After you TKO Wilson you guys where chosen “Fight of the Night and you won a bonus of 75k you must be very satisfied?
Goran Reljic: Yes of course.  It felt good to have everyone think our fight was that exciting.  You want the fans to love it. I felt the pressure to be ready for UFC and my goal was to bring an exciting fight and obviously we did that.  I understand that Wilson has a wife and son, so I am glad for him and his family also to get the bonus.

MMA Manager: How is your overall experience with the UFC organization?
Goran Reljic: It is a big shock for me because everything is so organized, but I am proud to fight for the best organization in the world and I want more fights to come very soon.

MMA Manager: Is it true that you are moving down to middle weight division and why?
Goran Reljic: Yes that is correct.  I talk to my manager and because I have possibilities to drop down to 185 and still keep my strength. My legs are not big which will help me maintain that weight easier. I believe I am going to be huge for 185 if not the biggest.

MMA Manager: Is there anyone in particular that you want to fight?
Goran Reljic: Not really, whoever the UFC give me I will keep training and I will fight. Hopefully I will beat up a couple fighters and get a shot to fight Anderson Silva. That is my goal right now.

MMA Manager: What is your overall experience training in extreme couture?
Goran Reljic: It's excellent, the best are training there and all the guys are very helpful and training is awesome. I was just getting focused mentally for the fight and working very hard.  I trained with some tough guys here and everything they did made me ready to win.  I took advantage of everything I had here at camp no going out and wasting time I was well prepared.

MMA Manager: How do you feel about Forest Griffin new light heavy weight Champion you were training with him for 2 months?
Goran Reljic: I am glad for him. He deserved that belt, he was better in that fight, he trains a lot, and he is a very good and humble person. Really a great heart, and a great fighter.

MMA Manager: How long before we can expect to see you in the Octagon again?
Goran Reljic: Very soon, hopefully in October.

MMA Manager: That's all I had as far as questions, but I wanted to do this interview so you could get your side out. Is there anything else you¢d like to express?
Goran Reljic: I would like to say thanks to GOD all my fans, sponsors and people who support me.
